Spook Creek Trail #513
From the trailhead on Elk Mountain Road #285, the Spook Creek trail begins with good tread and follows a ridge southwest toward Spook Creek. In less than a mile, near the end of this ridge, a hunter trail forks to the south. Stay on the Forest Service blazed trail and continue west in a very steep descent. The trail, as it loses elevation, becomes little more than a game trail in places, passing through dense patches of willow, ceanothus, and mountain maple. The user will cross a tributary and then Spook Creek before beginning the climb out of the drainage. The trail will improve as it nears the ridge top. At mile 2.5, Bilk Mountain Trail #517 branches off to the east. The Spook Creek trail continues west, drops into Schwar Creek, and ends at its junction with Trail #726.
