Warm Springs Trailhead


Warm Springs Trailhead serves as access to the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness and to the Jerry Johnson Hot Springs. It is located at at MP 152 on the famous Northwest Passage Scenic Byway and All American Road (US Highway 12) along the Lochsa Wild and Scenic River, approximately an hour and half from Kooskia, ID or an hour from Lolo, MT.  This area is known for its panoramic views of the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness and spectacular wildflower displays, and is a perfect spot for horseback riding, hiking and hot spring enjoyment. Two parking spaces are provided: one is for stock use.

Open Season: Open year round
Restrictions: No overnight camping at Jerry Johnson Hot Springs is permitted. There is a restriction for day use only, hours are 6am to 8pm.  Law enforcement officers do patrol regularly and will issue citations to persons in the area outside of these posted hours.

Day Hiking

Enjoy the scenery and relax while soaking in the Jerry Johnson Hot Springs, only 1.5 miles from the trailhead.  There is a hot pool near a large boulder right off the trail, but there are several pools beyond that point as well.

The trail is best accessed May through October and is dog friendly.
