Lost Cove TR 196

  

This trail accesses the community of Lost Cove that was developed in the 1900's for establishment of the Civilian Conservation Corps Railroad. The town is now deserted but remnants of the school, church, grist mill and some homes remain. The trail offers several views of the Nolichucky River Gorge with its sheer rock cliff. No campsites available along the trail.

Directions:

From Burnsville, go 6 miles on US 19W. Turn right and drive 18 miles on US 19W to the Sioux Community. Go another mile and turn right onto SR 1415. Drive about a mile and turn left onto NFSR 278 (a gravel road) at Harmiller Gap. Drive 2.5 miles and pass a gate for SR 5505 on the right. Go about 25 feet beyond the gate and park at the pull-off to the right. Begin the trail at the gate for timber access road 5505. No trailhead sign is present.
