Cheoah Trail #407

The Cheoah Trail starts on the Massey Branch Road across from the US Forest Service District Office, one mile from US Route 129, north of Robbinsville.  The starting point offers a historical kiosk that provides information about the Civilian Conservation Camp that was in the area in the 1930’s and 40’s, and the trail skirts that location, going around to the north and then west thru gentle forest with pleasant views of Santeetlah Lake.  After 0.5 miles, it turns away from the lake views and starts a bit more of a climb, but always in forest areas.  At the end, it connects with the Massey Branch Fitness Trail , and offers a relaxing walk in the woods for hikers.  Overall, the trail goes around the Forest Service Work Center, and offers several alternatives for return to the parking area.  Please heed the warning signs, as the  Work Center is quite active, with vehicles entering and exiting frequently.
