Lookout Rock Trail #40

The Lookout Rock Trail leaves from NC Road #1246 from Fontana Village, off Route 28.  Drive through  the village and follow the road signs to Fontana Heights.  After leaving the Village, the trailhead is on the left at a curve in the road.  Parking is available on the road.

The Benton MacKaye Trail follows part of this trail, and the Fontana Village Bike Trails intertwine in the area, but the trail is well signed.  This is a steep, but short trail that leads to Green Gap on the ridge, joining the Yellow Creek Mountain Trail.  At that point, the trail turns right (west) and follows the path approximately 0.25 miles to the Lookout Rock, which provides  views toward the north, with Gregory and Parsons Bald, Shuckstack and other peaks in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park visible just across the Little Tennessee River.
