With a shaded campground, a day use picnic area and beach, and a nature trail throughout the pine woods and scrub around Clearwater Lake, Clearwater Lake Recreation Area is a quiet getaway along the southeastern edge of the Ocala National Forest, just outside the community of Paisley.

Operational Hours: 8 AM to 8 PM daily; may close earlier seasonally. Campers have 24 hour access to the gates with an access code.

Restrictions: If you're fishing, the regulations of the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission for freshwater fishing apply.
Closest Towns: Clearwater Lake Recreation Area is located between Paisley and Altoona in the northeastern corner of Lake County, north of the Eustis / Mount Dora area.

Passes: Ocala National Forest Recreation Area Pass - $60 per person; good from date of purchase through end of the year. Provides entrance to our concession-managed recreation areas: Juniper Springs, Salt Springs, Alexander Springs, Silver Glen Springs, Clearwater Lake, and Wildcat Lake. Purchase at a recreation area entrance station.

General Information


From the junction of SR 42 and SR 19 in Altoona, north of Mount Dora, drive east on SR 42 towards Paisley. After 6.4 miles, you’ll see the entrance to the Clearwater Lake Recreation Area on your left. Turn left and drive up the park entrance road, passing the trailhead for the Florida Trail and Paisley Woods Bicycle Trail on your right, to reach the entrance station for this recreation area.


Day use parking is along the lake. Take the first left turn after the entrance station to access the day use parking area.
