General Information

The Swim Pond horse trailer parking area serves as the main trailhead for all equestrian trails in the Ocala National Forest. It is between Moss Bluff and Umatilla, just east of Doe Lake. Access is via unimproved roads.

From Ocala: Drive east 11 miles on SR 40 to Forest Corners. Turn right (south) on CR314-A. After about 9 miles you'll pass through the blinker at Moss Bluff. Make the next major right at an old country store. Passing entrances for Sunnyhill Restoration Area on the left, you'll come to FR 573 (Cross Rd or Big Scrub Rd) after 3.6 miles. Turn left onto this unimproved forest road. Continue 0.9 mile and bear right. Turn left after 0.3 mile into the parking area.

From Eustis: Follow CR 452 north for 11 miles. Turn left onto SR 44. After 1.6 mile, turn right at Buck & Doe's Store. Continue 4.1 miles north to FR 573. Turn right onto this unimproved forest road. Continue 0.9 mile and bear right. Turn left after 0.3 mile into the parking area.

General Notes:

Tent camping with horses is allowed throughout the general forest area, except during deer hunting season. Campers wishing to camp in a rig or motorhome with their horses are restricted to designated primitive campsites.

Individuals seeking more developed sites for their rigs and horses or tent campers wishing to camp with horses during the deer hunting season may wish to seek alternative locations.

The Swim Pond horse trailer parking area is the only developed parking facility available at this time. Many individuals choose to park alongside a forest road wherever trails cross. As long as the vehicles do not obstruct traffic or destroy natural resources, this is permitted.
