Clearwater Lake Recreation Area is a quiet getaway along the southeastern edge of the Ocala National Forest, just outside the community of Paisley. A longleaf pine forest and wiregrass ecosystem surrounds the 32-acre lake and provides a beautiful, shaded, wooded setting for the campground, a day-use picnic area and beach, and a nature trail

Operational Hours: 8 a.m. to dusk daily. Campers have 24-hour access to the gates with an access code.

Permit Info: All anglers must have a valid Florida Freshwater Fishing License and follow regulations of the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission.

  • All Ocala National Forest campgrounds allow pets, but they must be kept on a leash no longer than six feet and are not permitted in designated swimming and picnic areas.
  • There is a maximum stay limit of 14 consecutive days in a 30-day period.
Closest Towns: Clearwater Lake Recreation Area is located between Paisley and Altoona in the northeastern corner of Lake County, north of the Eustis / Mount Dora area.

Passes: Ocala National Forest Recreation Area Pass - The day use pass is $65 + tax/person; good from date of purchase through end of the year. It provides entrance to recreation areas managed by Adventure Ocala: Juniper Springs, Salt Springs, Alexander Springs, Silver Glen Springs, Clearwater Lake, and Wildcat Lake. This pass is available for purchase from Adventure Ocala at Alexander Springs, Juniper Springs, and Silver Glen Springs. The National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Annual Senior Pass, Lifetime Senior Pass and Access Pass holders receive a 50% discount on the fee for a single campsite occupied by the passholder at the following campgrounds managed by Adventure Ocala: Passholders do not receive a discount on the fee for multi-family sites, cabins or group-use areas or any other campsites occuped by those accompanying the passholder. The 50% discount does not include utility, water or hookup fees. Discounts on camping are not available to America the Beautiful or Volunteer Pass holders.

General Information


From the junction of SR 42 and SR 19 in Altoona, north of Mount Dora, drive east on SR 42 towards Paisley. After 6.4 miles, you’ll see the entrance to the Clearwater Lake Recreation Area on your left. Turn left and drive up the park entrance road, passing the trailhead for the Florida Trail and Paisley Woods Bicycle Trail on your right, to reach the entrance station for this recreation area.


Day use parking is along the lake. Take the first left turn after the entrance station to access the day use parking area.

Boating - Non-Motorized

Paddle your canoe or kayak across the placid waters of Clearwater Lake in search of a quiet spot along the reedy shoreline.  It's slightly more than a mile circuit around the edge of the lake. If you haven't brought your own canoe, canoes are available for rent. Check at the entrance station for availability.

Rental info: Canoe rentals are $16 / 2 hours, $24 / 4 hours, $38 / day
