Mill Dam Lake

In the shade of live oaks overlooking 168-acre Mill Dam Lake, Mill Dam Recreation Area offers two different experiences for the public. Between March 16 and September 30, it's a day use recreation area with a large swimming area and sandy beach accessible by wheelchairs. For the remainder of the year, October 1 - March 15, it becomes a group campground / recreation area for both day use and tent camping.

Operational Hours: 8 AM to 8 PM. When in use as a group campground / recreation area, check-in is at 3 PM, and check-out at 11 AM.

Rentals & Guides: Group rental of the campground and recreation area is available Oct 1 - March 15.  $50 /day for less than 100 people, $75 / day for up to 150 people (maximum capacity).

Restrictions: Fishing is not permitted from the bank of the recreation area.
Closest Towns: Head west on SR 40 for groceries, gasoline, and hardware in Forest Corners. If it is open, the small store at Mill Dam Lake may have camping supplies.

General Information


Mill Dam Recreation Area is due east several miles along SR 40 beyond the Lake George Ranger District Station. Look for the prominent sign on the left after you pass Mill Dam Lake.


Walkways, restrooms, and the swimming beach are wheelchair-accessible.

General Notes:

Mill Dam Group Campground is available for overnight stays as well as those desiring only day use rental. It is available for reservations October 1 – March 15. The remainder of the year, Mill Dam is a swimming and picnic area, open to all.

Mill Dam is located on the 168 acre Mill Dam Lake. Water play is popular here and campers bring their boats for easy access to lake activities. A large swimming beach adjoins the area and is accessible by wheelchair.

A new restroom facility was constructed in 2003. Other amenities include a picnic shelter, group grills, picnic tables, and flush toilets.

Waterskiing is a popular activity on Mill Dam Lake. Launch boats at the adjoining boat ramp.

Busy during the summer months, the swimming area has a nice beach along Mill Dam Lake and is wheelchair accessible.

Boating - Non-Motorized

Canoe or kayak Mill Dam Lake by launching either at the recreation area (which involves a haul or wheel to the beach) or via the adjacent boat launch area.

Fees: $2 launch fee at boat ramp

Boating - Motorized

The adjacent Mill Dam Boat Ramp is your place to launch your boat and head out for a morning of fishing on the lake.
