Crooked River National Grassland

General Information
Directions:Crooked River National Grassland is located primarily east of Highway 97, west of Highway 26, and north of Highway 370. Most of the territory is within a triangle between Madras, Prineville and Terrebonne, Oregon.
Activities
Mountain Biking
There are numberous trails on the Crooked River National Grassland that provide for fun and challenging mountain bike rides. The most noteable are Grey Butte, Cole Loop and Warner Loop. These trails are open to various kinds of travel so please be cautious of other riders.

Campground Camping
There are four standard campgrounds and one reservable group campground on the Crooked River National Grassland that offer ammenities from horse corrals to drinking water depending on the facility.

RV Camping
There are four standard campgrounds and one reservable group campground on the Crooked River National Grassland that offer ammenities from horse corrals to drinking water depending on the facility. Most of these faclities have campsites that can accomdate an RV that is less than 32 feet in length, but none of them offer hook-up ammenities.

Group Camping
South Shore Group Camp offers 2 sites that cost $50 per night and must be reserved in advance.

Lake and Pond Fishing

Backpacking
Many of the trails on the Crooked River National Grassland can be short out-and-back day hikes, or linked to other trails to make longer outtings. Dispersed and backcountry camping is allowed near trails as long as it is not within a closure area. Please be sure to practice Leave No Trace principles when camping in a non-developed area.
Horse Camping
Cyrus Horse Camp is a free facility and offers 5 campsites, corrals, and easy access to the trail system. Also, stock water may be available, but check with the front desk to verify the current status.

Horse Riding
There are numberous trails on the Crooked River National Grassland that provide for fun and challenging horseback rides. The most noteable of these are the Ridge Rider Trail System which includes the Cole Loop and Warner Loop. These trails are open to various kinds of travel so please be cautious of other riders.

OHV Camping
OHV Camping is authorized at the staging area for Henderson Flat.

OHV Trail Riding
The Henderson Flat area contains 18 miles of OHV trails with difficulty levels ranging from easy to difficult. Please be sure to stay on the trails because OHV's can easily cause damage to the nearby environment, and it is labor intensive and takes time for the trrain to be repaired. Please Tread Lightly!

There are various places to picnic on the Crooked River National Grassland, however Haystack Reservoir Day Use Area offers the best ammenities; including shaded pavillions, picnic tables, a standing grill, and horsehoe pits.
