Potlid South Trailhead

 Located just to the east of McKay Saddle, this trailhead is the southern access point for Potlid Trail (#836), which wraps around the west side of Bull Mountain.  

In the spring and summer of 2015 there will be a timber sale in the vicinity of the trailhead and within the first 1/2 mile of the trail. Please call the Ochoco National Forest office at (541) 416-6500 or look for signs detailing when you should avoid the area.

Restrictions: This is a Day-Use only facility.  No overnight camping is permitted at trailheads or Sno-Parks on the Ochoco National Forest or Crooked River National Grassland.

General Information


From Prineville, Oregon:

Travel north on Main Street for approximately 11 miles to the Ochoco National Forest boundary.  

Main Street turns into Forest Service Road 27 at the forest boundary.

Continue on Forest Service Road 27 for another 7 miles until reach McKay Saddle and the junction of Forest Service Roads 27 and 2725.  

Make a sharp right to stay on Forest Service Road 27 and proceed for about 1.5 miles.  

Potlid South Trailhead will be on your left.
