Wildcat North Trailhead

This trailhead is located slightly uphill from Whistler Campground and provides access to Wildcat Trail (#833) in the northeastern region of Mill Creek Wilderness.  

The parking area is rather large and can accommodate most vehicles, however the roads to access this trailhead can be quite rough so four wheel drive is a must.

Current Conditions: Open year-round. This is not a gated facility. Access is subject to favorable weather conditions.
Reservations: This is a First Come, First Served facility.

Fees This is a free facility.
Permit Info: Please fill out a Wilderness Registration Permit located in the box attached to the sign board and place it in the slot before beginning your hike.
Restrictions: This is a Day-Use only facility.  No overnight camping is permitted at trailheads or Sno-Parks on the Ochoco National Forest or Crooked River National Grassland.

General Information

Directions:

From Prineville, Oregon:

Travel north on Main Street for approximately 11 miles to the Ochoco National Forest boundary.  

Main Street turns into Forest Service Road 27 at the forest boundary.

Continue on Forest Service Road 27 for another 12 miles.  

At the junction of Forest Service Road 27 and Forest Service Road 2745, veer right to stay on Forest Service Road 27.  

Continue for another 4 miles along the wilderness boundary.  

At the junction of Forest Service Road 27 and Forest Service Road 200, turn right toward Wildcat North Trailhead.  

The trailhead will be on your left and the parking area will be on your right before you get to Whistler Springs Campground. 

NOTE: Unpaved sections of Forest Service Road 27 and the campground road are very rough. 4WD or AWD vehicles are recommended.
