Line Butte Trail (#807)

This trail provides access to the Lookout Mountain trails sytem from the south via the Line Butte Tie Trail (#807A).

The trail can be accessed from the Line Butte Trailhead East and the Line Butte Trailhead West.

Starting in the west, the trail heads east from Line Butte past the headwaters of Horse Heaven Creek to Fawn Creek.

The trail is not long, but it climbs elevation sharply, providing scenic vistas to the south and west, especially from South Point.

The slopes are dominated by mature stands of ponderosa pine and mixed conifers, opening up to subalpine fir and sage flats on top. There is a huge open wetland surrounding Buck, Little, and Chev Springs.

At the higher elevations, broad meadows are filled with wildflowers in the late spring and early summer.

The trail is primarily used by hunters in the fall because both trailheads are located at the end of long, poorly-maintained dirt roads.
