Lakeshore Trail #1247

Lakeshore Trail

ALERT: Access across Prince Creek is impassable. The Lady Express ferry boat will not stop at Prince Creek Campground / dock this spring because the Prince Creek bridge on the Lakeshore Trail is washed out. The Lakeshore Trail is NOT accessible from the Prince Creek dock or campground. The Lady II ferry boat will stop at Prince Creek starting May 1 and will land on the uplake side of the creek to provide access to the Lakeshore Trail. Plans are in place to construct a new bridge over Prince Creek by the end of summer.  SEE MAP – 3/19/2019

The trail follows the shore of Lake Chelan and has good view points, especially at Hunts Bluff near Moore Point. This trail also borders Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness and can begin at either the National Recreation Area trailhead in Stehekin, Prince Creek, or as a shorter hike from Moore Point. It can be hiked as early as April 1 and is usually maintained by early May. Rattlesnakes and ticks are common along the trail (but not frequent). It is an especially nice hike in the spring and fall (it tends to get hot and dusty mid-summer). Camping facilities (table, fire grates, and toilets) are provided at Prince Creek, Meadow Creek Shelter, Moore Point, and Flick Creek. Do not camp on private land which is usually signed. Camping within the National Recreation Area may require a permit (except Flick Creek). Access to water is not a problem, but should be treated. Stream crossings can be hazardous during peak runoff in the spring.
