North Fork Chiwaukum Trail #1591


This trail starts at the junction with the Chiwaukum Creek Trail #1571 within Alpine Lakes Wilderness and travels for 6.2 miles through mature forest along the valley floor and into subalpine terrain near the end of the trail at Larch Lake.  Ample camping is available along the length of the trail, with the most scenic sites at Chiwaukum Lake and Larch Lake.  Use existing sites and do not camp on vegetation.  Campfires prohibited above 5000', including Chiwaukum Lake and Larch Lake.

The trail becomes steep and rocky beyond the junction with Glacier Creek.  Stock are also prohibited beyond this point.

  • Campfires prohibited above 5000', including Chiwaukum and Larch Lakes. 
  • No camping within 200 feet of Larch and Cup Lakes.

Water: No water at Trailhead. Water available along trail. Filter or treat drinking water.
Restroom: Restrooms at trailhead. Pit toilets at Chiwaukum Lake.
Passes: A valid Recreation Pass required at Chiwaukum Creek trailhead.

General Information


The trail begins 7 miles up the Chiwaukum Creek Trail #1571 from the Chiwaukum Creek Trailhead.  The trailhead is located on Chiwaukum Creek Road #7908, 11 miles West of Leavenworth on Highway 2.
