Dense old-growth conifer forest with lush understory of rain forest vegetation. Excellent opportunity to view the Olympic temperate rain forest and Quinault Lake. 1.3 miles along the south shore of Quinault Lake and 2.7 miles are through the temperate rain forest.
This loop trail begins at the Quinault Rain Forest Trailhead, though many sites in the Quinault area access this loop. In a short distance from the trailhead, go left at the trail junction and hike downhill (under the road bridge) to cross a trail bridge over Willaby Creek before entering Willaby Campground. Walk the lower campground road to a junction with the trail near the shore of Quinault Lake Follow the trail along Quinault Lake, walking past the Lake Quinault Lodge before arriving at Falls Creek Campground. Follow trail along edge of campground and Falls Creek to the South Shore Road. Cross road to continue on the loop trail. Walk 0.5 mile to trail junction, stay right and continue 0.5 mile to junction with Lodge Trail. Stay left and walk 0.6 mile to the junction with Willaby Creek Trail. Stay right and continue the loop trail 1.1 miles back to the Rain Forest Trailhead completing a 4-mile loop.
Points of interest include Cascade Falls, Cedar Bog, and interpretive Quinault Rain Forest Nature Trail. The trail then follows the lakeshore back to the trailhead.
