Interrorem Cabin

Imagine being young and in love, chopping down trees and peeling logs, setting log upon log to build a home so sturdy it would easily last a century, and carrying your bride across the threshold. Imagine a quiet and remote life, tucked in a lush and remote rain forest. Better yet, experience it yourself at Interrorem Cabin.

The charming, historic cabin is a one-story, square, peeled-log building and includes an open porch across its facade and a pyramidal cedar shake roof. It has a kitchen furnished with a dining table and chairs, a living room with a futon couch/bed, and bedroom with twin bunk beds. A propane heater keeps it cozy during the winter months, and it is also equipped with a propane cook range and lights. There is no refrigerator. Propane is furnished. No water is available on site.

An outdoor vault toilet is located near the cabin. There is also a fire ring for barbecuing and campfires, and a picnic table for outdoor dining.

• Availability: Interrorem Cabin is available for rent year round *except Thursdays for cleaning.
• Price and Capacity: $50 per night per group, with a maximum of four occupants. Fees are used directly for the maintenance and preservation of the cabin.

History

Interrorem Cabin was built in 1907 as the first administrative site of the Olympic National Forest, which, at the time, included the area that is now Olympic National Park. Emery J. Finch, Ranger and Hoodsport pioneer, built the cabin for his new bride, Mabel, and they moved in on April 22, 1908. Between the years 1933 to 1942, the station hosted several government programs such as the ERA (Emergency Relief Administration), WPA (Works Progress Administration) and the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps). From 1942 to 1986, the cabin was a fireguard station, and from 1986 to 1994, it was used by Forest Service volunteers.
