Dungeness area

Lower Gray Wolf River is near the Dungeness Forks Campground

Nestled in the northeastern corner of the Olympic Peninsula, the Dungeness area is formed by the Gray Wolf and Dungeness River basins up to the rocky heights of the Buckhorn Wilderness. Being the driest area of the Olympic forest, it is known for its subalpine flower blooms and numerous butterfly species. This area provides access to a vast network of trails along rivers, Wilderness areas and connects into popular National Park trails.

Directions:

From Quilcene, WA follow US Highway 101 North for 19 miles and continue on US-101 West for 6.5 miles. Turn left onto Louella Road and travel 1 mile, turn left on Palo Alto Road and travel 6 miles. Turn right on to Forest Service Road 2880. ~40 minute drive time.

From Port Angeles, WA continue on US Highway 101 East for 12.2 miles. Turn right onto Taylor Cut Off Road and continue for about 2.5 miles onto Lost Mountain Rd. travel about 2.5 miles & turn left on Slab Camp Road. Slab Camp Road becomes Forest Road 2870 in about 1 mile. ~40 minute drive time.
