Yellow Dog Falls

McCormick Wilderness Yellow Dog

Located in the northeast part of the McCormick Wilderness, these falls are located on the Yellow Dog River, one of only a handful Eastern rivers to be named "wild". This trail is seldom used, and it is very likely you will see no other hikers. The trailhead is located off Ford Rd. and the trail is 2.38 miles to the falls. The trail is not marked as it is located in wilderness. As such, some trail finding may be required. Do not confuse these falls with the Yellow Dog Falls located off road 510 closer to Marquette.

General Information

Directions:

From Marquette, take Big Bay Road approximately 27 miles to Triple A Road and turn left. Follow Triple A Road as it turns into a dirt road past Eagle Mine. After 13 miles the road will turn into Ford Road which you will follow for another 2 miles where the parking lot will be to the left.

Day Hiking

There are a couple of trails into the McCormick Wilderness that will take you deep into the wilderness with destinations to lakes and waterfalls. 

Viewing Scenery

This trail affords the opportunity to walk through a forest of large trees in a remote area where the chances of seeing other people is low. It is quiet and far from roads which increases the chance of seeing wildlife as well as getting to experience solitude.
