Beckwourth Ranger District is one of three ranger districts of the Plumas National Forest. We are located on the eastern portion of the forest in Eastern Plumas County extending into Northeastern Sierra and South Lassen Counties. We are proud to be part of a dynamic community that shares its wealth of resources with our visitors.

The Beckwourth Ranger District is a place where visitors can find activities and experiences they require. Besides the great expanse of forest and range land, visitors also enjoy three recreation areas; mountain top forest lookouts; seventeen fee based campgrounds; seven developed 'no-fee campgrounds; a versatile forest road system; four lodges operated under permit; and two rental facilities. From solitude to adventure, available activities include lodges, camping, fishing, hunting, hiking, biking, equestrian, nature watching, water sports, cultural resources, exploring, wildflowers, fall color, motor touring and relaxing.

In addition to recreation activities, Beckwourth Ranger District provides other benefits to the community. Fuelwood, Christmas Trees and other timber related resource are available by permit. Personal use fuelwood and Christmas Tree permits are available by mail or in person. All commercial permits must be obtained in person.  Small amounts of forest products are available without permit. Call 530-836-2575 for details

Campground Camping

Twenty-four developed campgrounds are available in Beckwourth Ranger District. Six of these are 'no fee' campgrounds. Descriptions of amenities are available at each campgrounds' web page.

RV Camping

RV Disposal facilities near Lake Davis campground is located across from the entrance to Grizzly Campground and Grasshopper Flat.

RV Disposal facilities near Frenchman's Lake is located at Cottonwood Springs Campground.

Cabin Rentals

Four lodges operated under special use permit;

  1. Elwell Lodge is located in the Lakes Basin Recreation Area
  2. Gold Lake Lodge is located in the Lakes Basin Recreation Area
  3. Gray Eagle Lodge is located in the Lakes Basin Recreation Area
  4. Camp Layman is next to the Middle Fork of the Feather River off of Hwy 89/70

Two historical resources are available for rental;

  1. Black Mountain Lookout is a forest fire lookout that is located on the escarpment above Hwy 395 near Milford
  2. Crocker Guard Station was once lodging for the District Ranger located near the Beckwourth - Geneee Road
