Potato Patch Campground

Located in the Mingus Mountain Area in ponderosa pine forest, this campground offers cool summertime temperatures and fairly easy access via a paved and winding mountain road.

Nearby are Woodchute Wilderness, Woodchute Trail #102, and the historic mining town of Jerome lies 8 miles northeast on U.S. Highway 89A.

Reservations: The following sites may be reserved on the day of arrival or up to six months in advance through Recreation.gov
  • Loop A (non-electric): 2, 3, 4, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, and 28.
  • Loop B (electric, RVs only): 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10.

Restrictions:
  • Check-in after 2:00 p.m./Check-out by 12:00 noon
  • Quiet hours between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Campfires in developed fire pits only
  • Dogs must be on leash (6' maximum)
  • OHV/ATV use prohibited in the campground
  • Maximum length of stay: 14 days in 30-day period on the Prescott National Forest including stays at dispersed recreation sites.
  • Fireworks are prohibited
  • Discharging any weapon is prohibited in the campground.
  • Drinking water is available for use on site. Filling RV Tanks is prohibited.

General Information

Directions:

From Prescott, take U.S. Highway 89 north past Granite Dells, turn right on Hwy 89A and travel approximately 20 miles to the top of Mingus Mountain. Potato Patch Campground entrance will be to your left (across from the Summit Picnic Area) on Forest Road 106.

From the Verde Ranger Station in Camp Verde, travel approximately 20 miles northwest on Hwy 260 (toward Cottonwood). Turn left on Hwy 89A. Stay on Hwy 89A (watch for a second left turn), then follow the paved and winding mountain road through the town of Jerome and up to the summit on Mingus Mountain. The turn-off to Potato Patch is on the right, across from the Summit Picnic Area.

Activities

Campground Camping

Cool off in the pines of Mingus Mountain located just off Scenic State Route 89-A: 28 spacious tent sites and 12 RV sites (with electric hook-ups only).

RV Camping

Potato Patch Campground has 12 sites that are specifically designed for RVs only.  Each site has an electric hook-up, but no water connections or dum station.  Water is available for use on site, though the haul-water system does not have enough capacity for visitors to fill RV water tanks.

There are also 28 sites in a separate loop that can accommodate RVs, but that have no hook-ups.
