Groom Creek Schoolhouse Group Picnic Site
Built in 1902, this historic schoolhouse and adjacent picnic area may be reserved in advance for groups of up to 50 people. Visitors without reservations may utilize outdoor accommodations when groups are not present. This site is also home to the Prescott Sunrise Lions' Club Nature Trail, a unique interpretive trail that is accessible to wheelchairs and features tactile displays for people with vision impairments.

General Information
Directions:From Phoenix take Interstate 17 North 61.8 miles. Merge onto AZ-69W via EXIT 262 toward Cordes junction Road/Prescott and follow 33.8 miles. Take the US-89 S ramp. Turn slight left onto East Gurley Street/AZ-89. Continue to follow East on Gurley Street for about 0.8 mile. Turn left at Mt. Vernon Street and continue for 6.1 miles. The turn off for the schoolhouse and parking will be on your left.
Access to the schoolhouse group day use site is via gate locked with a combination lock. After making reservations, you will receive the combination for the gate.

Interpretive Areas
- The Sunrise Lions of Prescott and the Prescott National Forest invite you to visit the Groom Creek Nature Trail. This accessible trail is located 8 miles south of Prescott on the Senator Highway (CR56) at the Groom Creek Schoolhouse. The 1500 feet paved trail will lead you through a quiet forest setting, and let you experience the smells and sensations of a ponderosa pine forest. A printed brochure about the trail is available in our Cortez office in Prescott.
Group Picnicking
- Groom Creek Schoolhouse has 10 picnic tables. In inclement weather up to 50 people can be accommodated indoors at tables and chairs that are stored in a back room. Upon departure, facility should be left as it was found (i.e., tables and chairs returned to storage).
