General Information
Directions:Black Canyon Fishing Site is off Hwy 260, between Camp Verde and Cottonwood. From Camp Verde, northwest on Hwy 260, turn right on Access Road near mile post 210. After crossing cattle guard, proceed 0.6 mile (on dirt road) to Black Canyon Day Use Area.
Activities
River and Stream Fishing
- Rainbow trout are stocked upstream at Bignottie from November through March. Bass, catfish, and roundtail chub are some of the other species that may be caught in this part of the river. Note: If caught, roundtail chub must be released immediately.
- A valid fishing or combination license is required for resident and non-resident anglers 10 years of age or older fishing any public accessible water in Arizona.

Boating - Non-Motorized
Black Canyon is the put-in spot for the short, smooth water float to Bignottie which takes about one hour. This easy stretch of river provides an opportunity for less-experienced paddlers to enjoy the Verde River by canoe, kayak, or inner tube. Please note that conditions on the river vary greatly depending on weather, water level, and other factors. Please plan ahead to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience on the Verde River.
