Monarch Park Campground

Area Status: Closed

Campground will be closed until approximately July 4th weekend, 2025.

Monarch Park Campground will be closed for the 2024 season. The U.S. Forest Service in partnership with the National Forest Foundation will be implementing a project to renovate the campground by replacing infrastructure that does not meet current requirements for safety and accessibility. Reservations: First-come, first-served. No reservations are accepted.
Fees:
$24 per site for overnight camping. Two vehicles or one RV per site is included in the camping fee. $10.00 for a third vehicle. $10.00 fee for day use if not camping overnight. Fees are payable by cash, check or money order. Self-servicing fee tube is available. Sites must be occupied the first night of payment. Interagency Senior/Access passes valid for 50% discount to the camping fee for one site.

Restrictions:
  • Maximum 8 persons per site: 2 tents and 2 vehicles or 1 recreation vehicle (RV).
  • Maximum RV length is 45 ft.
  • Dogs must be leashed at all times.
  • No discharge of firearms or fireworks.
  • Only licensed vehicles can operate inside campground.

General Information

Directions:

From Poncha Springs travel west on Highway 50 for about 15 miles, then south on County Road 231 to the Monarch Park Campground.


Parking:

Parking is limited to the parking spur provided with each site.

Campground Camping

RV Camping

Monarch Park campground can accommodate RVs up to 45 feet in length. No electrical or sewer hookups are available. The nearest dump station tis at the Poncha Springs Visitor Center located near the intersection of  US Highway 285 and US Highway 50 at 330 Burnett Ave Poncha Springs, CO 81242.

Lake and Pond Fishing

Monarch Park campground is located on the banks of the South Fork of the Arkansas River. Beaver ponds are near the entrance to the campground and are a great fishing spot for families with young children.

 

Day Hiking

Popular trails that are near Monarch Park campground include Waterdog Lakes, the Monarch Crest Trail and the Hunt and Boss Lakes trails.
