Mount Shavano and Mount Tabeguache (Fourteeners)

Area Status: Closed

O'Haver Lake Picnic Area has four picnic tables and four standing grills provided and located within the O'Haver Lake Campground. O'Haver Lake is a great family fishing spot. It is a small lake, about 15 acres in size and is regularly stocked for fishing. Motorized boats, both gasoline and electric, are prohibited.

Directions:

From Poncha Springs, travel south on Highway 285 for 5 miles to County Road 200, then turn right onto CR 200 and travel for 2.5 miles to O'Haver Lake campground.

Parking is available for up to 10 cars.

Dispersed Camping

There are many dispersed camp sites located along Forest Road 252 or past the trailhead parking area on the left. Camp away from the stream and pack all trash out.

Mountain Climbing

The trailhead for Mt. Shavano is located just off of the Colorado Trail near the Blanks Gulch trailhead. From the parking area, follow the road west to a small memorial monument then continue northwest to a cattle guard located near a free-flowing natural spring. Continue north, crossing the cattle guard, for 0.2 miles to the Mt. Shavano trail.
