Bear Lake Campground is a developed campground camping with the following attractions: Lake and Stream fishing. Bear Lake is approximately ¼ mile from campground, and the Tributaries of Cuchara River runs through campground. The Indian Creek Trail #1300 Trailhead is located on the north side of campground. This trailhead is a multi user trail system and accesses 23 miles of motorized trails available for ATV, motorcycle, bicycle, foot, and horse use.

Reservations: Reservations for 1/2 of the sites (sites 002, 003, 004, 005, 006, 007 and 008) can be made. Phone 877-444-6777 or visit at least 4 days in advance. Friday and Saturday night minimum required stay on weekends. 3 nights minimum on holiday weekends. Walk-ups are exempt from the nightly minimum.

$21.00 fee per site for overnight camping. Two (2) vehicles or one (1) RV per site is included in the camping fee. $6.00 for a third vehicle. 
$7.00 fee for day use if not camping overnight.
Fees are payable by cash, check or money order. Self-servicing fee tube is available.
First-come, first-served sites must be occupied the SAME NIGHT.
Golden Age and Golden Access Cardholder: 50% discount off the camping fee only.

Restrictions: The following restrictions apply to this campground:
  • Maximum 8 persons per site: 2 tents and 2 vehicles or 1 recreation vehicle.
  • Dogs must be leashed at all times.
  • No discharge of firearms or fireworks.
  • Only licensed vehicles can operate inside campground.
  • Camping is NOT ALLOWED behind a LOCKED GATE.

Water: Drinking water is provided by a well with a hand pump.

The Interagency Senior Pass (previously known as the Golden Age Pass) and the Interagency Access Pass qualifies for a 50% discount at concessionaire run campsites. The discount only applies to the fee for the campsite physically occupied by the pass owner, not to any additional campsite(s) occupied by members of the pass owner's party.

General Information

Directions: To get there from La Veta, drive south on SH 12 for 15 miles to FSR 422. Turn right onto FSR422 and follow it for 5 miles until you reach the Bear Lake Campground, one mile past Blue Lake Campground.
