North Salt Creek Trailhead


North Salt Creek Trailhead provides access to Buffalo Peaks Wilderness on Salt Creek Trail after skirting the southwestern boundary.  Going northeast on Salt Creek Trail also skirts the outside boundry of the wilderness area, so mountain biking is authorized here.

Directions:

From US Highway 285 just north of Antero Junction turn west on Forest Road 435 (Salt Creek Road).  Follow this road to the trailhead at the end of the road.


Accessibility:

While this area is open to non-motorized traffic year-round, the access roads are closed from January 1st - June 15th each year for elk calving.  Access may be limited even earlier in the winter due to snow and drifting.
