Butcher Boy Picnic Area

Area Status: Open

This picnic/day-use area is located at the far western end of Turquoise Lake, adjacent to May Queen Campground. Amenities include picnic tables, fire rings with grates, and a restroom. You can also access the Turquoise Lake Nature Trail from this site to enjoy a leisurely walk along the northern shoreline.

  • Dogs must be leashed at all times.
  • No discharge of firearms or fireworks.
  • Day use only between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. No overnight use.

From Leadville, follow the signs to Turquoise Lake Recreation Area and May Queen Campground. Use the May Queen entrance, and bear right to Butcher Boy.
