May Queen Campground

Area Status: Closed

May Queen Campground has 27 sites and is located at the far western end of Turquoise Lake in a shaded lodgepole pine forest at an elevation of 9,900 feet. It is near the Charles Boustead Memorial Tunnel and adjacent to a day use/picnic area, which offers easy angler access to the lake. You can also access the Turquoise Lake Nature Trail for a leisurely walk around the lake.

Firewood can be purchased at the campground. Facilities include picnic tables, fire rings, and vault toilets. Accessible sites are located along the southern end of the campground loop. During weekdays, usage is moderate, but heavy on weekends.

Dates are weather dependent. All services may not be available early or late in the season.

Reservations: Call 1-877-444-6777 or visit www.recreation.gov at least 4 days in advance. Friday and Saturday night minimum required stay on weekends. 3 nights minimum on holiday weekends. Walk-ups are exempt from the nightly minimum.
Fees:
  • $29 nightly fee per site for overnight camping which includes two vehicles. A third vehicle is an additional $11 per night. RVs and ATV/boat trailers count as one vehicle.
  • Fees are payable by cash, check or money order. Self-servicing fee tube is available.
  • First-come, first-served sites must be occupied the first night.

Restrictions:
  • Maximum of eight people per site
  • Maximum three tents per site or one RV and two tents
  • Dogs, including service dogs, must be leashed at all times
  • No discharge of firearms or fireworks
  • Only licensed vehicles can operate inside campground
  • Camping is not allowed behind a locked gate

Passes: America the Beautiful Senior or Access Pass cardholders may receive a 50% discount off the camping fee only. The discount only applies to the fee for the campsite physically occupied by the pass owner, not to any additional campsite(s) occupied by members of the pass owner's party.
