Kite Lake Campground


***Please stay on Forest Service land and respect private property. A closure is in effect by private landowners, which includes accessing the peaks of Mt. Democrat, Mt. Lincoln, and Mt. Bross from Kite Lake.***

Kite Lake Campground is located 5.5 miles northwest of Alma, CO on County Road 8. It has five campsites, which are not recommended for trailers. Facilities include fire rings, tables, and outhouse toilets, but there is no water or trash service.

Reservations: Campsites at Kite Lake are first-come, first-served.
Restrictions:
  •  Campfires are restricted to fire rings only. Be sure campfire is completely extinguished before leaving.
  •  Maximum of eight people per site.
  •  Facility roads are not paved.
  •  No more than a 14-night consecutive stay.
  •  Dogs, including service dogs, must always be leashed.
  •  No discharge of firearms or fireworks
  •  Quiet hours from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m.

Directions:

From Fairplay travel North on Highway 9 to the town of Alma.  Turn right onto Buckskin Gulch Road and travel 8 miles to the campground.  This is a high clearance route please exercise caution.

There is limited parking available at the trailhead.  As this area is the only staging area for the Lincoln - Democrat loop, there is heavy summer traffic.
