Crescent Mining Camp

Area Status: Closed

Travel back in time to the days of the mining boom at Crescent City Mining Camp on the outskirts of the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness near Rockdale, CO (Clear Creek Canyon) at intersection of County Road 390 and FS road 381. Clear Creek Canyon is a rich historical area. The Winfield town-site is only a few miles away.  There are four cabins; only two are reservable at www.recreation.gov

The cabins have been restored but provide no amenities. Visitors need to bring bedding, including cots as well as a cook stove. There is an outdoor fireplace and vault toilet. No drinking water is available.

Directions:

From Buena Vista Colorado, go approximately 15 miles north on Highway 24 towards Leadville. Turn west on County Road 390 at Clear Creek Reservoir. Go approximately 8 miles west on County Road 390. Turn left (south) onto Forest Road 381. The cabins are on the right.
