Baby Doe Campground


Area Status: Temporarily Closed

Baby Doe Campground is located in a shaded lodgepole pine forest, along the eastern shore of Turquoise Lake, at an elevation of 9,900 feet. Several popular campsites are close to the shoreline. Facilities include vault toilets, potable water, picnic tables, and fire rings. Firewood is available for sale at the camp host site.

This campground was named after Leadville's most prominent Silver King, Horace Tabor's second wife, Elizabeth McCourt, who's nickname was Baby Doe. 

Dates are weather dependent. All services may not be available early or late in the season.

Reservations: All sites are by reservation only. Call 1-877-444-6777 or visit www.recreation.gov at least 4 days in advance. Friday and Saturday night minimum required stay on weekends. 3 nights minimum on holiday weekends. Walk-ups are exempt from the nightly minimum.
Fees:
  • $27 nightly fee per site ($30 for sites 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, and 14), which includes two vehicles. A third vehicle is an additional $10 per night. RVs and ATV/boat trailers count as one vehicle.
  • Fees are payable by cash, check or money order. Self-servicing fee tube is available. 
  • First-come, first-served sites must be occupied the first night.

Restrictions:
  • Maximum of eight people per site
  • Maximum three tents per site or one RV and two tents
  • Dogs, including service dogs, must be leashed at all times
  • No discharge of firearms or fireworks
  • Only licensed vehicles can operate inside campground
  • Camping is not allowed behind a locked gate

Water: Potable water is available through a pressurized water system. Not for filling RV tanks.
Restroom: Vault toilets
Passes: America the Beautiful Senior or Access Pass cardholders may receive a 50% discount off the camping fee only. The discount only applies to the fee for the campsite physically occupied by the pass owner, not to any additional campsite(s) occupied by members of the pass owner's party.
