The San Isabel Trail is 5.0 miles long. It begins at Forest Road 957 and ends at Forest Trail #747. Trail follows San Isabel Creek through stands of aspen and fir to its junction with the lake trail. Upper section can be difficult passage for horses. Trail offers fishing in the creek and lake, access to alpine trails and lakes, and big game.  Close proximity to Crestone makes this an alternative dispersed campsite when North Crestone Campground is full.

The trail is open for the following uses: Hiking, Horseback Riding, Fishing, Hunting, and Dispersed Camping

General Information

Follow Hwy 17 north from Alamosa to Moffat. Take the Crestone Road (CR T) east.  Turn north at the Baca Grande airstrip (CR 66T) and follow the gravel road (veering right) to San Isabel Creek (approximately 5 miles).  Limited parking at the trailhead.  Also accessible via San Isabel Lake Trail #857.  (NOTE-Trailhead sign shows trail #868)
