North Fork Crestone Trail # 747

The North Fork Crestone Trail is 8.5 miles long. It begins at Forest Trail #744 and Loop Trail #746 and ends at Forest Boundary/Hermit Pass. Additional trails that can be accessed from the North Fork Crestone Trail include: #745, #749, #858 and #859.

The trail functions as a tie-in between the North Crestone and Cotton Creek drainages, running above timberline in the Sangre de Cristos.  Circuit routes with other trails for extended stay.  Some areas are difficult for horse travel.

The trail is open for the following uses: Hiking, Horseback Riding, Viewing Scenery and Dispersed Camping

General Information


From Alamosa, take Hwy 17 north to Moffat, take County Road T east to Crestone. In Crestone, at the intersection of Galena and Alder Streets, take Alder Street north 1.3 miles to the campground, Trailhead #744 begins at the east end of the campground. Its about 2 miles to trail # 747.
