Little Chetco Trail #1121

Trail begins along Kalmiopsis Rim Trail #1124 near Cold Springs and runs down a serpentine ridge to Emily Cabin area where it follows an old mining road downstream to Copper Creek along the Little Chetco River. It crosses the river (ford required) near the Emily Cabin private inholding and then follows it downstream. It climbs over and down a steep hill to Madstone Cabin site on the main Chetco Wild and Scenic River between Madstone and Fresno Creeks. This trail is within the Kalmiopsis Wilderness.  The section from the Little Chetco River to Madstone Cabin site is in poor condition and is not recommended at this time. Likewise, Bailey Mountain Trail #1109 from the Little Chetco River up to Bailey Mountain is no longer being maintained and is not recommended at this time.

There is a small seasonal spring along the trail a short distance west of Kalmiopsis Rim Trail #1124. Near the confluence of Ditch Creek, there is a spur trail going upstream along the Little Chetco River to some nice camping spots and historic cabin sites.

This trail is located in the Biscuit Fire area that burned in the year 2002. Visitors should take into consideration (because of the substantially increased risk of fire-killed snags falling) that travel and camping may be more difficult and require greater concern for safety.
