Important Note: Flow releases on the Rio Chama are expected to remain lower than average beginning July 2023 due to dam construction hurdles. Flows may not be boatable. Open year round, Big Eddy is located off of FR 151 along the Rio Chama and north of Abiquiu Lake.  This site is often used as the take-out for those floating the Rio Chama Wild and Scenic River.  It is also a popular access point for those looking to fish along the Rio Chama.

Information Center: A New Mexico Fishing license is required.  For license information see the NM Department of Game and Fish page. River Users: Solid human waste must be carried out in a washable/reusable dump station compatible container. Cleanwaste and Restop2 bags are acceptable for groups up to 4 people with a watertight hard-sided container for transport and may not be disposed of in Forest Service provided trash receptacles. The Rio Chama Float Overnight Permit is accessed via: Recreation.gov.
