Buncombe Horse Trail

Buncombe Riders face right

This trail winds through forested hill and valley terrain. Points of interest include old cemeteries, wagon roads, and plantation sites. Opportunities also exist to view various wildlife species and abundant plant life. With interconnecting loops, riders have an opportunity for various length rides. Hikers and mountain bikers are also welcome.

Users are able to pay recreation fees through recreation.gov.

Open Season: All year
Restrictions: Large riding groups are requested to inform the district ranger of the group’s size and duration of stay to ensure facilities are adequate. Special use permit may be needed.Closed to all off-highway vehicles. Care should be taken in the woods during big-game season. Wear blaze orange.

General Information

Directions: In Newberry County, from I-26, take exit #60 (SC 66), drive east for 3.5 miles. Turn right onto Forest Service Road 358 and drive .2 miles. Buncombe Trailhead parking area is on left hand side.
