Wambaw Cycle Trail (North Loop)

Wambaw beginner's loop

A figure-eight motorcycle and OHV trail, this sandy course winds through fragrant pine woods with shimmering hardwoods in the understory. Along the way riders can glimpse vernal ponds with bald cypress as well as turkeys and white-tailed deer.While the trail is designed for motorcycles, it can accommodate OHVs under 50 inches wide. Jeeps, Hummers and other 4x4 vehicles are not permitted. The Wambaw Cycle Trail and the trailhead are maintained with collected fees.

Current Conditions: All campgrounds, rifle ranges, OHV trails, and other recreation areas across the Francis Marion Ranger District will be closed August 30, 2023, to ensure the safety of the public and staff ahead of Hurricane Idalia. We will reopen our recreation areas and offices as conditions permit. Visitors are responsible for their own safety. Trail conditions change frequently! Before your visit, please call the Call Before You Haul Hotline at 803-561-4025 for the latest trail conditions and weather closures.

Fees: $5 per OHV per day, or $50 per person per season. Seasonal passes are issued to specific individuals, and only those individuals may use them. Seasonal passes are issued at the Francis Marion Ranger District Office. Fees are non-refundable. A complimentary seasonal pass will be issued to volunteers who contribute eight hours or more of trail work at certified trail work outings. General Information

Directions: From Charleston, take US highway 17 North to Steed Creek Road (SC Route 133-S). Turn left and drive five miles to Halfway Creek Road (SC Route 98-S). Turn right and continue six miles to Round Pond Cycle Trailhead on the left.
