The Sewee Visitor and Environmental Education Center offers a variety of programs designed to introduce visitors to the unique heritage and natural history of South Carolina's lowcountry, Francis Marion National Forest, and Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge. Jointly operated by the Forest Service and the Fish and Wildlife Service, this 9,000 square foot facility features hands-on interpretive displays exploring the unique and valuable ecosystems of the forest and refuge, including discussions and feedings of its two resident red wolves.  Don't miss it! Plan a stop along your way to tap the knowledge of the staff on the many recreational opportunities available on the Francis Marion National Forest and Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge.

Caretaker "Wolfman" Rob conducts red wolf feedings and interpretive talks on Saturdays at 11:30 AM and Thursdays at 3:00 PM.

At a Glance

Current Conditions: Currently, the Center is open Thursday-Saturday from 9:00 am-5:00 pm as staff are available. Before your visit, please call (843) 928-3368 to confirm that the facility is open. If the facility is closed, Center grounds are open. Visitors can hike the Nebo Nature Trail, picnic at the shelter near the Sewee Pond and, observe Red wolves at the viewing platform adjacent to the trail boardwalk. Fishing is allowed in the Nebo Ponds, found along the nature trail leading southeast from the main building and bus parking area. The Sewee Pond is only open for fishing during scheduled events.  If the Center entrance gate is closed, you can park off of Highway 17 and walk in to access the grounds.
Operational Hours: Thursday through Saturday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m, as staffing permits.
Information Center: The Sewee Visitor and Environmental Education Center offers a variety of unique interpretive opportunities for the public. The center provides visitor information and environmental education focusing on the natural and cultural history of the nearly 300,000 acres of public land that comprise the national forest and wildlife refuge. It also features an auditorium, classrooms with a wet lab, a visitor orientation area, an exhibit hall, and a gift shop. Its grounds offer freshwater ponds for fishing and education, a mile-long loop trail and a butterfly garden...and real, live red wolves!
