Wind sculpted and rippled expanse of dunes

The Umpqua Dunes area provides something for everyone!

Hikers will find areas to explore the dunes, walk the beach, and view the ocean. An easy walk from the Umpqua #2 and #3 OHV staging areas brings you to a stretch of beach closed to off-highway vehicle (OHV) use. You can also explore the area's largest and most expansive dunes at nearby John Dellenback Trail and Eel Creek Campground.

Activities

Beachcombing

An easy walk from the Umpqua #2 and #3 OHV staging areas brings you to a stretch of beach closed to off-highway vehicle (OHV) use.

Sand Play

Need to get rid of some excess energy? Run, jump, slip and slide as you play around on the sand dunes by the Eel Creek campground and John Dellenback trail.

Campground Camping

Eel Creek campground provides wooded sites and the best foot access to the sand dunes.

Other camping in this area, including some OHV camping,  is provided by State Parks, County and private facilities.

Day Hiking

A short trail around Hall and Shuttpelz Lakes provides lake and dune access. Trailhead has limited parking and is not suitable for RVs.

This area provides the easiest beach access in the Oregon Dunes for beach walking and ocean viewing.

One of the longest trails across the sand dunes begins at the John Dellenback trailhead. The trail is marked only by posts in the sand and runs up and over some very large, sculpted dunes. The trail ends at the beach.

The most impressive dunes are found and easily viewed from the access road.

OHV Camping

This area has dispersed sand camping access and is adjacent to large OHV developed facilities managed by Douglas County.

John Dellenback trailhead is a semi wooded picnic area with tables, vault toilets and paved parking.
