Battle Lake Trail #1302
While it is less than a mile hike (0.6 miles) to reach Battle Lake, it’s mostly an uphill climb. But the view from the top makes it worth it and it’s all downhill coming back! In the spring, wildflowers like oxalis, trillium, and bleeding hearts are in bloom along the trail and elk abound in the area, evidenced by numerous tracks. At the end of the trail, the three-acre Battle Lake sits in a bowl in the folds of the coast range mountains in the Nestucca River basin. With lots of downed wood, the lake provides good habitat for newts and is one of the few hike-in lakes that Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife periodically stocks with trout.
