Pioneer Trail Group Campground is situated in the Pinecrest Basin approximately 1.5 miles on Dodge Ridge Road from the Pinecrest Lake Day Use Area and the Summit Ranger Station.  Pioneer Trail is a group campground with three individual camp sites.  Two of the campsites have 50-person capacities; the third campsite can accomodate up to 100-persons.  Each site has pedestal BBQ grills, fire rings, several tables (including a food preparation table) and several water hydrants.  Each site has a paved parking area of various parking capacities, either 10, 15 or 25 vehicles –  depending on the size of the vehicles.  A one-mile trail leads from the campground sites to the Pinecrest Lake Day Use Area.  Reservations can be made year-round by contacting the National Recreation Reservation Service a (1-877-444-6777).  Call early for reservations.

Operational Hours: Pioneer Group Campground is OPEN year-round for group camping by reservation. This campground is also OPEN from October through April for those seeking a winter camping experience. Winter camping is FREE: first come, first serve, no fee.

Fees Group Camping: Dodge Ridge Corporation operates Pioneer GroupCampground and charges the following fees:
  • $90.00 for a 50 person capacity site (2)
  • $130 for 100 person capacity site (1)
Individual winter camping: No fees.

Dodge Ridge Corporation operates this campground under a special-use permit administered by the U.S. Forest Service. The fees collected from overnight campers go back into upgrading campground facilities and amenities.
Open Season: year-round
  • Camp in designated sites only.
  • The maximum length of stay in any campground is 14 days.
  • Campfire permits are not required in developed campgrounds. Do not burn plastic or metal.
  Please leave the area in as good (or better) condition than you found it.  Often, locations destroyed by thoughtless campers must be closed to restore the area's natural health. Help ensure your favorite area remains open.

Water: Potable water is available at faucets throughout campground. Filling of RVs is prohibited.
Restroom: Several vault toilets are located throughout the campground. No RV dump station available.
