Current Conditions: Summit Ranger District (HWY 108) Trailhead is REACHABLE by wheeled vehicles. Online wilderness permits are available. Obtain a free online wilderness permit.
Reservations: No reservation is required to use this trailhead. The trail leads directly into a Wilderness Area where a FREE wilderness permit is REQUIRED anytime a person or group travels OVERNIGHT. For overnight wilderness trips on the Stanislaus (into the Emigrant, Carson-Iceberg, or Mokelumne Wilderness), visitors must obtain the permit by visiting the Special Places page of the Stanislaus website, or by calling or visiting a Stanislaus office.
