This trail features two small lakes, Elephant Rock Lake and Rock Lake, Elephant Rock, and granite outcrops. There are some burned-over areas, including around Rock Lake. The trail enters the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness at about the halfway point. 1.9 miles one-way. Moderate difficulty.
The trail starts at the Union East Campground Trailhead (area is unavailable), which increases the one-way distance to 3.2 miles; this trailhead is accessible to all highway-legal vehicles.

General Information
Directions: From the Calaveras Ranger District head east on Highway 4 for approximately 26 miles, turn right on Spicer Reservoir Road, follow it for 7.9 miles, then slight left onto Forest Route 7N29Y (high-clearance road). Follow 7N29Y to the end, about four miles. See the Elephant Rock Lake Trailhead page for a map.
