Johnson Lake

  

Johnson Lake is popular for fishing and is connected to Johnson River and Little Johnson Lake. Fishing is considered good for small mouth bass, walleye, and northern pike.

General Information

Directions:

 

Johnson Lake is located 29 miles northeast of Orr, MN.

  •  From Orr, continue north on U.S. Hwy 53 to Cusson (4 miles).

  • Turn right onto St. Louis County 180. At Elephnat Lake (11 miles), County 180 becomes Forest Road 203 (slight right).

  • From Elephant Lake, continue on Forest Road 203 for 15 miles to the trailhead at the end of the road.

General Notes:

The ½ mile portage on the southern end of the lake is open to ATVs and trailers no wider than 62 inches. There is a dock but no boat ramp.


Parking:

Overnight parking allowed at trailhead.

There are 7 backcountry campsites on Johnson Lake. 

Please use facilities provided such as fire rings, tent pads, and latrines. Pack out garbage.
