Bug Creek Trail is part of the Pat Zakovek Waterfowl Impoundment, an 80-acre flooded area created by a dam in 1991 to increase waterfowl nesting habitat and resting areas during migration. This 2 mile trail is a short, unmaintained hiking trail.

Bug Creek Trail is located 17 miles northeast of Orr, MN.
From Orr, go north on U.S. Hwy 53 to Cusson (4 miles).
Turn right onto St. Louis County 180.
At Elephant Lake (10.6 miles), County 180 becomes Forest Road 203.
From Elephant Lake, continue on Forest Road 203 for 3.4 miles to the trailhead.

Parking area is located on the right side of Forest Road 203.

It’s a ten minute walk from the parking area to the overlook where mallards, teal, scaup, ring-necked and wood ducks are common. The trail is currently only maintained from the first half to the dam and overlook, after that the trail is a bit rugged and not maintained.
