Winstanley Lake Shelter Site Lookout/cabin

This historic shelter was constructed in the 1930's by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). This shelter is accessed by the Winstanley Lakes trail and provides users with a skiff to use on Winstanley lake. A reservable Forest Service cabin is located on the northeast shore of the lake that can be accessed using the skiff. Please return the skiff to the trailhead after use.

General Information

Directions: The shelter is approximately 33 air miles northeast of Ketchikan on the mainland east of Winstanley Island, elev. 400’. Accessible by float plane or by trail from saltwater (skiff provided at end of trail; please return it to the trail after use). A mooring buoy is provided on a first come first serve basis.
