General Information
Directions: Located on Baranof Island on the east Shore of Salmon Lake 11 miles southeast of Sitka; 10 minute floatplane flight from Sitka or by boat with a 2 mile (3-km) hike up Salmon - Redoubt Lake Trail from head of Silver Bay.Activities
Cabin Rentals
Salmon-Redoubt Lake Trail which leads the 2 miles to cabin begins near mooring buoy at head of Silver Bay. Head of Silver Bay may freeze mid-November through mid-February. Lake surrounded by low elevation mountains rising to near 2,500 feet (760 m). Western hemlock/Sitka spruce forest surrounds cabin and lake. Accessible nearly year round, depending on mode of access. Cabin has two single-wide bunks over two double-wide bunks. Cabin built in 1998 by volunteers from US Coast Guard. Suggested USGS topo map: Port Alexander D-4; Sitka A-4 The small, square-bowed skiff (rowboat) with oars is provided but is heavy. A long-shaft outboard motor in the 2-10 hp range is highly recommended for use with the skiff provided. Be sure the plug is in before launching the boat. Please tie the skiff well up on the shore and pull the plug before leaving so the boat does not fill with rain water. What to bring: Coast Guard approved personal flotation devices for each person using the skiff, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, cooking stove, fire starter, lantern, pots, pans, plates, utensils, food, toilet paper, garbage bags. Rubber boots and raingear are recommended. Firewood is provided for the cabin stove but may be in short supply or temporarily out at any time of year. Water is available from the lake. Treat all water before using. Better idea is to bring your own water. Cabin is not maintained during winter. Firewood not provided for outdoor campfires, gather only dead and down wood. Pack out all gear, garbage and food that you bring to cabin. Reservations may be made on the day of arrival or up to 180 days in advance. Reservations are restricted to a maximum stay of 7 consecutive nights per party for any one reservation May 1 - September 30 and a maximum stay of 10 consecutive nights per party October 1 - April 30.

Lake and Pond Fishing
