Cabin Rentals
Samsing Cove Cabin is a large rustic log cabin located within a typical SE Alaska hemlock and spruce forest along a rocky shore with a nearby sandy-gravel beach exposed at low tides. Mountain peaks above Sitka are visible through islands and trees to north. Popular recreational cabin with Sitka residents. Cabin was built and donated to Forest Service in June 1991 by Roger and Judy Sudnikovich, owners of S&S General Contractors in Sitka with volunteer help from many Sitka organizations, businesses and residents; replaced original log cabin built cooperatively in 1941 by Forest Service and U.S. Navy for enlisted personnel on leave. Sleeping bunks main level: two single-wide bunks atop two double-wide bunks; open loft which overlooks the main level has one double-wide bunk on each end with lots of floor space for hardy campers. Suggested USGS topo map: Port Alexander D-4, D-5 What to bring: #1 diesel fuel (10 gallons a day), sleeping bags, sleeping pads, cooking stove, lantern, pots, pans, plates, utensils, food, toilet paper, garbage bags. Rubber boots and raingear are recommended. Heating cabin - Since this cabin has such a large open space to heat, it can take 5 gallons to heat the first 24 hour stay (10 gallons in very cold winters); thereafter 2-5 gallons daily dependent on time of year, heat setting chosen and outside temperature. Water available from nearby spring. Treat all water before using. Better idea is to bring your own water. Mooring buoy available on first-come, first-served basis for boat anchorage. Cabin reservation does not include exclusive use of buoy. Cabin is NOT maintained during the winter. Firewood not provided for outdoor campfires, gather only dead and down wood. Accessible year round, weather permitting. Occasionally poor weather can result in extended stays, and cabin users should be prepared for this. Pack out all gear, garbage and food that you bring to cabin. Reservations may be made on the day of arrival or up to 180 days in advance. Reservations are restricted to a maximum stay of 7 consecutive nights per party for any one reservation May 1 - September 30 and a maximum stay of 10 consecutive nights per party October 1 - April 30.
