Located on west beach of Shelikof Bay, this is a great cabin for beachcombing, hiking and photography. Spectacular sandy beaches, magnificent ocean view of Gulf of Alaska, close proximity by boat to Sitka. Relatively flat terrain easy to explore. North Beach Cabin is ½ mile north located on the northern beach of Shelikof Bay. Iris Meadows is easily reached by following Shelikof River upstream or Shelikof Trail for a mile. High tides affect access to this cabin when arriving by the Kruzof Island Trail and crossing Iris Meadows. Tides lower than 6 feet provide easier access to this cabin. Consult local Tide Tables. Cabin main level has one single-wide bunk and one double wide bunk; the open loft has no bunks. Cabin was built in 1991 by volunteers from US Coast Guard Air Station in Sitka. Suggested USGS topo map: Sitka A-5, A-6 What to bring: Fire starter, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, cooking stove, lantern, pots, pans, plates, utensils, food, toilet paper, garbage bags. Cabin is NOT maintained during the winter. Firewood for the cabin stove may be in short supply or temporarily out at any time of year. Firewood not provided for outdoor campfires, gather only dead and down wood. Accessible year round, weather permitting. Occasionally poor weather can result in extended stays, and cabin users should be prepared for this. Pack out all gear, garbage and food that you bring to cabin.
